From Streetcar to Metro

The tour follows along the traces of Route 83 of the former Montreal Park and Island Streetcar Company. It begins at the corner of Terrebonne and Girouard and heads north, exploring what was done with the land that came available when transit evolved into our current streetcar-free mix of metro and bus transport. Part of the land used for the streetcar was a gift from the Snowdon family. As did the streetcar, we will turn east onto Queen Mary and rest our feet in the picturesque pocket park that bears the name of the streetcar line. Here we will reminisce about the businesses that have come and gone along Queen Mary Road before going our separate ways. How did the streetcars nourish the growth of the area as a business centre? Did the Metro station weaken the viability of the businesses around it?
